The VSO recorders and media report

Since last spring, the software products of VSO have been collecting data (unless the user refuses to) about DVD recorders and DVD recordable media. The data offers a good source for statistical analysis, as the VSO’s products are increasingly popular. This is their second report based on the collected data and they are now handing out two awards.

The PS3 will be a failure?

Wired has a quite interesting article about PS3 and Sony. Will the PS3 blow gamers away or is it just a big fiasco? Is the $600 price too much for the customers? It seems that all those delays and negative publicity for Sony (Sony BMG antipiracy software etc) will not gave the flawless launch for the PS3. Longer you wait for something, the higher your expectations become, that is a fact!

Blu-ray and HD-DVD to freeze competition until 2007 due to laser diode shortage

According to DigiTimes, Blu-ray and HD-DVD competition could freeze until 2007 due to laser diode shortage. Although several vendors, including Royal Philips Electronics, Hitachi-LG Data Storage (HLDS), Sony, Matsushita Electric, Lite-On IT and BenQ, already announced BD or HD-DVD drives, only Pioneer and Plextor are currently able to maintain actual shipments.

Lite-On IT receives Toshiba orders for HD-DVD burners

According to DigiTimes, Lite-On IT has received orders from Toshiba for half-height (H/H) HD-DVD burners. Toshiba is releasing the H/H models to Lite-On IT in order to focus its own production on slim-type HD-DVD burners. Lite-On IT last week announced that it is developing H/H HD-DVD burners, with volume production to start in March 2007.

Lite-On IT to produce HD-DVD burners in March 2007

Lite-On IT, the largest maker of optical disc drives in Taiwan, on August 18 announced it is developing half-height (H/H) HD-DVD burners, according to DigiTimes. The volume production would start in March 2007. Lite-On IT seems to have a quite neutral attitude between Blu-ray Disc (BD) and HD-DVD.
