The Blu-ray launch delayed in Europe

Pioneer, one of the key players in the High Definition format war, has admitted that their Blu-ray player will not launch in September. Instead they are now talking about the CES 2007 expo as the D-day for the European invasion. While Toshiba and the HD-DVD camp are having a slight head start in High Definition player sales, they have not been too successful either - products have not been launched in Europe and the U.S. consumers are complaining that the Toshiba has a poor availability.

Copy Blu-ray and HD DVD Movies with Print Screen Function

Blu-ray and HD DVD should be highly secure as you know. Well, German CT magazine found a huge whole in the copyright protection of Blu-ray and HD DVD movies. There is AACS and HDCP, which when enforced make it impossible to copy movie data from a disc. CT found out that you can make copy each frame of a movie by just pushing print screen on a computer. This process could be automated by dedicated program of course. They tested this with the Blu-ray Sony Vaio VGC-RC 204 and the HD DVD Toshiba Qosmio G30 notebook.

Philips pushes to seize optical media

Philips Electronics has been pushing the authorities to seize optical media shipments that according to Philips violate their optical disc patents. However, they have faced a setback as authorities are saying that Philips has no to demand products for other vendors to be seized. And on top of that, the European distributors are planning to sue Philips to get compensation of their lost profits.

LG launches GBW-H10N Blu-ray recorder

LG has gained a rather steady position in the DVD recordable market, due to their decent price/quality ratio. With Blu-ray their intention seems to be competitive from the beginning, as they are launching the GWB-H10N recorder. Not much information is yet revealed about this CD/DVD/BD recorder, but the price tag is about $923 in Taiwan.

Verbatim announces Mini DVD+R Double Layer Media

Verbatim today announced their new Mini DVD+R Double-Layer (DL) disc. Measuring only 8cm in diameter, the new discs provide nearly one hour of continuous video capture time on a single side or 2.6 GB of storage capacity- almost twice the capacity of current mini DVDR discs. Five-packs of Verbatim Mini DVD+R DL media will be available in July 2006, when the first new Mini +R DL-compatible camcorders are launched. The media can also be recorded with drives supporting the +R DL format.
