Pioneer BDR-101A Blu-ray recorder is out!

$995 is the price tag for this new Pioneer Blu-ray recorder, giving you mighty 25GB of storage. In addition to BD-R, the recorder also comes with DVD-R capabilities although the specs are quite modest. Only 8x for ±R and 4x for ±RW recording speeds are supported. While Pioneer is releasing another model later this year, they are not expecting the market demand to rise until 2008.

Warner Releasing Dual-sided HD-DVD Discs

Warner Home Video has announced the release of the first title (Rumor Has It) in the HD DVD and DVD Combo Format (HD DVD on one side and Standard Definition DVD on the other). Warner Home Video will also release three new HD DVD titles: GoodFellas and Swordfish on May 2 and Training Day on May 9.

Philips tries to block ad-blocking

According to reghardware.co.uk, Philips is attempting to patent a technique that would prevent viewers from skipping through ads embedded within recorded programmes or even channel surfing during broadcast ad breaks - or force viewers to pay some cash if they want to avoid the ads.
