Comments(0) Toshiba announced today details of an integrated marketing communications plan to launch its line-up of HD DVD players. The Toshiba HD DVD players, models HD-XA1 and HD-A1, will be the first HD DVD players to hit the U.S. market and will begin shipping to retailers in March of this year.

Along with some bug fixes, the new version comes with Windows Vista support, the next generation of Microsoft’s operating system series. Also they have added support for the DVD-R Dual Layer recording.
Posted February 15, 2006 Comments(0) The computer security specialists of F-Secure have confirmed that the Settec Alpha-DISC DVD copy protection system contains rootkit-like cloaking features. This type protection can be found at least of the Mr. & Mrs. Smith -movie German DVD release. The manufacturer is decent enough to provide an uninstaller for the malicious software.
Posted February 15, 2006 Comments(0) Philips lawsuit against Taiwanese media manufacturer DST was sent back for retrial. Philips sued DST for violating licensing agreements for CD-R discs. Philips will review the decision and then make an appeal, according to DigiTimes.

It did not take them long to release a new version with significant updates, including predefined profiles for Nokia, Motorola and Sony Ericsson phones. Also the Apple iPod encoding is up to 300% faster!

Posted February 12, 2006 Comments(0) CMC Magnetics, the largest producer of optical discs in Taiwan, on February 10 announced an additional investment of US$15.6 million in Prodisc Technology, Taiwan’s third largest maker of optical discs, to increase its stake ratio to 11.93%, making it Prodisc’s largest institutional shareholder.

Posted February 7, 2006 Comments(0) Yesterday a minor update to the Nero Burning ROM 7 was released, with a few fixes - however some of the bugs fixed are quite fatal ones: crashing, malfunctioning virus scanning, Video CDs not working… Sounds like a good time to update!
