Philips certification for Ritek 8x DVD+R DL discs

Ritek announced on January 24 it obtained certification for 8x DVD+R DL discs from Royal Philips Electronics last week, becoming the only the third company to receive such certification. Mitsubishi Kagaku Media (MKM) and Ricoh are the only other two companies to have received the certification.

DVD sales grow but spending dips

Findings in trade journal Screen Digest suggest average European DVD consumer prices went down more than 11% in 2005 to just under 15 euros (£10). Price reductions meant spending fell by 1.7%, even though 732 million discs were sold last year - more than ever before.

Pioneer:”Up to 7 million PS3s shipped in 2006″

There is a lot of doubt and speculation about the launch of Sony Playstation 3. There are a lot of questions raised: The supply of Cell processors, the supply of Blu-ray parts, what will the actual launch dates be, and what’s on the price tag? At the same time PS3 was not a big show and CES - a prototype behind a glass and some non-playable game demos. Not too spectacular for a product to be released soon. But Andy Parson of Pioneer is more than optimistic as he talks about the Blu-ray. The Pioneer executive predicts up to 7 million shipped PS3s in 2006. Now that would be something, if Sony could pull it through.
