I don’t know what the Tom’s Hardware were thinking when they published that article. It’s very funny though. Maybe they should first learn the basics of DVD media and writers? They weren’t even able to find DVD-R DL media to those tests. And they did not tell what media brands (or MIDs) were tested.

Pioneer Launches Its First Internal BD Writer

Pioneer Corporation announced today that the company’s first internal BD/DVD writer with ATAPI connection for Windows PCs has recently been developed. The new Pioneer BDR-101A complies with the latest specifications for the BD-R (Blu-ray Disc recordable), BD-RE (Blu-ray Disc rewritable), and the BD-ROM (Blu-ray Disc read-only memory). It is expected to start shipping at the end of January, 2006.

France to legalize P2P file sharing

Well aren’t the french roosters cocky! Their parliament has voted in favor of allowing free sharing of music and video on the Internet. This is a most interesting and important result, as France is one of the major political powers in the European Union, and this decision is quite clearly against the what the EU has going for. This is perhaps the first major loss for the lobbyists of music and movie industry.

DTS Demonstrates DTS-HD Master Audio for First Time at CES 2006

At the 2006 CES, DTS, will premiere DTS-HD Master Audio, the company’s high definition surround sound solution for next-generation high definition media. This marks the first public demonstration of high definition video content shown in conjunction with 7.1 discrete channels of surround sound that is bit-for-bit identical to the master soundtrack. Previously announced as DTS-HD, DTS-HD Master Audio has been selected as an option in the standards for the upcoming Blu-ray Disc and HD DVD media formats.
