Ritek recorded largest global market share

Ritek accounted for 20.0% of the total global shipment volume for DVD+R/-R discs, 21.5% for DVD+RW/-RW/-RAM (rewritable) discs and 18.7% for CD-RW discs for the third quarter of this year, the largest market share of each sector, according to Japan-based market research firm Fujiwara-Rothchild.

NEC launches the first DVD burners with Labelflash technology

NEC launches the world’s first DVD burners with Labelflash technology. The PC drives will be available from December onwards. Labelflash burns custom motifs, lettering or images onto the top side of DVD blanks. It puts very few restrictions on creativity and design. For the first time NEC’s wide range of new drives will not only support DVD+R(W) and DVD-R(W) but also DVD-RAM.

Panasonic Develops Multi BD Drive

Panasonic has developed the new chipset for Multi Blu-ray Disc (BD) Drive. The drive can record and play Blu-ray Disc (BD), DVD, and CD Media Formats. Blu-ray Disc format, which use a blue-violet laser, is being promoted as a standard for next-generation optical discs.

Sony lists 52 XCP infected CDs

Sony is asking retailers to pull the XCP infected titles off their shelves and wait for clean replacement copies, which might not arrive in stores until next Friday, leaving some artists off the shelves temporarily for the all-important Thanksgiving shopping weekend. Sony has published official list of CDs that has been infected by the XCP.

Lite-On IT carefully eyeing new Sony-NEC joint venture

Lite-On IT, said that they will be carefully monitoring the formation of a new joint venture between Sony and NEC to design, produce and market ODDs, according to general manager Michael Gong for the company’s Optical Disc Drive Business. Lite-On IT is currently the main ODM/OEM maker of ODDs for Sony.
