“You have two choices to get MKV files playing:

1.The easy way: You can use VLC player which has built-in splitter and decoders
2.The more advance way (recommended): You can install external splitter and decoders for audio and video”

you should add a brief reason why #2 is recommended…i always used VLC cuz it was easier, quicker n didn’t require installing or updating codecs all the time…recently, i ran some community codec pack to do some conversions & realized windows media center can now play the 720p videos with the remote control instead of mouse or keyboard…unfortunately i can’t get subs to work whether muxed or external .SRT…but its just fine for flix that don’t need subs…
