Convert video files for Nokia E90 (and other MPEG-4 compatible phones)
A while ago our guide writer and multimedia specialist Siku wrote two exellent guides for converting video files, Divx AVI for an example, to Nokia E90 Communicator compatible format. With these instructions one can produce MPEG-4 video files with near-DVD quality and hi-fi audio. Perfectly suitable for watching TV-series, music videos, or even movies on your mobile phone! These guides are targeted for the Nokia E90 Communicator, that has a very powerful GPU and a high reslution display, but with a few adjustments you can follow the steps to produce videos for any MPEG-4 device - either a mobile phone or portable audio/video player . Just set the output resolution to match the display resolution of your device and adjust the bitrate accordingly. The smaller the display your device has, the lower video bitrate can be used while still achieving good video quality.
There are two editions of the guide. The basic guide uses MediaCoder and provides a very easy starting point for converting your videos. The settings can be very easily adjusted to match your needs. The advanced guide goes much further and covers a lot of details, like the video aspect ratio and uses more advanced tools for conversion - not for absolute beginners, but very good reading and a lot to be learned from the guide. The guides are not yet transfered to our new site platform, but you can read them at our archives.

Hi guys, thanks for the advice. I have successfully convert my movie files into E90 format. Tks to the media coder software. As a way of repaying: I would like to share the fruit of my success with Nokia E90 fans. I havea series of movies file that can be viewed from the E90 but not sure haw can i post them on the internet for sharing.
The titles that I have are:
1) Band of Brothers (Full Series)
2) 8 MM (part 2)
2) Dare Devil
3) Deception
4) Gladiator Full Version
5) Iron Man
6) The Incredible Hulk (2008)
7) The Kingdom
8) The Reaping & Lastly,
9) Transformer
BTW I notice the DEFAULT real player do not have a function key for FAST FORWARDING whilst playing the movie.. resulting in you needing to complete the movie at 1 go OR: to pase the playing of movie and leave it at the background. Any solution for this?

Hi guys, I am back. Have not been using E90 for a while (was trying out Sony Ericsson). Decided to switch back to my “favourite toy -E90″ after some setbacks with sony ericsson. I am still trying out the ripping with the new preset. hopes it works! Thank you Gaurav Jalan for the help!

hi everybody.
first of all thank you very much for such a useful post.
i could easily convert my videos for my nokia e90 communicator.
one problem that i faced was maintaining the average ratio (AR) of the video.
in other words, when i tried playing the converted video on my e90, then i found that the video stretched to cover the whole area of the screen, resulting in widening of images.
now this is due to the difference in the screen size ratio of input file and the target file that is 800 x 352.
so, i found the Solution to solve this problem, which is as follows:
1) in Picture> Crop (Drop Down )> Select Expand to Fit
2) In Picture> Press Effects> Deblocking > Tick on Horizontal
This will Add Black border if required and maintain the average Ratio (AR)
Enjoy!

Here’s the updated preset: http://www.bitburners.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/07/e90_preset_v110.zip
Please note that the ZIP file includes both the old and the new preset. If you’re using a recent version of MediaCoder you should use the 1.10 version. In case you have very old version, use the 1.00 version.
This problem was caused by an update of MediaCoder, somehow the used video format was switched to H.264 from the Xvid. This is fixed in the new preset file.
Thank you for reporting this problem!
