Wii does Opera
No, this is not high culture content emerging for the budget console, but rather the web browser by Opera software. Despite having been on the market for years, Opera has not gained the acceptance of the masses, but it has a small but loyal fan base. Opera has also had some success in mobile devices and they have a smart rendering feature for smaller resolutions. This is most likely on of the reason why Nintendo has chosen to work with Opera, as the Wii does not have a HD resolution, so it is less than optimal for web browsing.
Gamers who quickly snapped up the Wii console when it went on sale last month can start surfing the Web on Friday when Nintendo offers the Opera browser as a free download available through the Wii Shop Channel. The browser is currently in beta, but a final version will be available by the end of March and will be free for all Wii owners through the end of June 2007. After that, those who haven’t downloaded it yet will be able to get it for 500 Wii points — equivalent to $5.
