Take a Wii for Christmas?

While Sony is struggling, Nintendo aims to be ready when it counts - for the holiday season sales. The price in the US market is confirmed at $250, which is dramatically less than the PS3 will be. On the other hand the device is not as advanced technically than it’s rivals. While Microsoft has sold 5 million Xbox 360’s so far, and is hoping to ship another 5 during this yeat, Nintendo hopes to ship 4 million before 2007. Also plenty of games are expected for the Wii during this year.

Nintendo executives said this week that the company also would announce today that more than 25 new games would be available for its video-game machine this year, a substantial portfolio from several genres that is intended to help the company broaden the appeal of its console. The company plans to ship 4 million of the Wii consoles worldwide this year.

Nintendo also will explain today a plan to expand the video-game market beyond its core of young men.
