Sony delivers world’s fastest DVD recorder

…but it is actually made by Sony NEC Optiarc, but that is definitely a good thing. The drive boasts with recording speed figures: 18x for a single layer DVD and also a promise to record some 16x media at this speed. The DVD-RAM will fly at 12x and dual layer DVD’s at 8x, and so does +RW. The -RW is recorded at 6x and the legacy CD-R format at 48x.

Sony touted the AWG170A’s compact, fanless self-cooling design, along with mechanisms to compensate for unbalanced discs - all that spinning would do anyone’s head in, we say - and to minimise vibration during the read/write process, another cause of coasters.

The drive is available in with a choice of four different bezel colours.
