No Blu-ray for the summer?

First HD-DVD players are out and new movie titles are coming, but where is Blu-ray? I4U reports that Pioneer is planning to wait for Sony PlayStation 3 before releasing their Blu-ray player BDP-HD1 and that Panasonic is going to do the same with their DMP-BD10. It is interesting to speculate why the Blu-ray camp is stalling their releases. On the other hand, customers should get quite a mature products as the vendors don’t seem to have any hurry. Still the fact is that they are giving HD-DVD a head start, even though the first HD-DVD player from Toshiba seems to be far from impressive.

They said Pioneer will launch the BDP-HD1 in November after the Sony PS3 has launched. I go the same launch time information from a Panasonic representative for their Blu-ray disc player DMP-BD10.

There are reports though that Sony has started to replicate Blu-ray discs in the United States. Sony’s last announced release date is June 20th for nine Blu-ray disc titles. There is no clear release date for the Sony BDP-S1. The Best Buy estimated arrival time is 8/10-8/17/2006.

The Pioneer representative was also making sure to mention that the Blu-ray movie playback quality on the Sony PS3 will be by far not as good as on their BDP-HD1.
