Lite-On accelerates DVD-R to 20x

Nobody is sure why, but the DVD recorder manufacturers are still putting effort to squeeze the last speed steps out of the DVD format. Plextor has been saving a few seconds of their customers lives with their 18x PX-760A for quite some time, and other manufacturers are about to do the same in the neat future. Lite-On however is pushing even harder and is about to release a 20x speed model during Q4/2006.

Lite-On IT is preparing to offer 20x DVD burners in the fourth quarter to enhance its competitiveness, according to industry sources.

Toshiba-Samsung Storage Technology (TSST), NEC, Hitachi-LG Data Storage (HLDS), Pioneer and I-O Data Device are among the brands expected to release 18x DVD burners soon, the sources indicated.
