LG Blu-ray/HD-DVD hybrid player?
The report by CE Pro suggests that LG is adjusting their market entry strategy for the high definition DVD players. According to the source, LG would be dropping the already announced BD199 Blu-ray player, and going for a hybrid model to be released later summer or early fall. Also, their planned HDTV product is to be adjusted.
The memo states that the dual-format player is planned for late summer/early fall, and came about as a result of the uncertainty of the looming next-gen DVD format battle. “In light of uncertainty in this early stage of the market for pre-recorded high-definition optical discs, we have decided not to introduce the BD199 as originally planned for this spring,” it says. The memo also informs dealers that the company will be removing the 71SA1D and 62SA1D LCoS 1080p Micro Display Projection televisions due to “certain part procurement issues.”
