Adult entertainment, or porn, has historically played a significant role in media publishing market. Adult entertainment was among the first industries to be profitable on the Internet, and it has also been speculated that porn was one of the key factors affecting the ancient Beta vs. VHS video tape war which turned into the favor of VHS format. So one more slap to the face of HD DVD camp is that Japan’s porn producer have chosen to support Blu-ray format in their high definition productions. According to the source, Sony is even providing technical assitanse to the adult film studios of Japan.

Adult studios here have complained that Sony, the leading Blu-ray booster, and associated companies have been uncooperative in their efforts to make copies of their films on Blu-ray. Consequently, some have opted by default to release their movies on HD DVD, the rival high-def disc format.

However, a Japanese company supervising Blu-ray adult film releases says it’s partnering with a Taiwanese company to get the proper replication equipment from Sony.

“In Japan, there are some problems. Companies cannot press Blu-ray discs because they cannot touch adult-related contracts,” Kiyotaka Konno of Assist Corp., which replicates DVDs in Japan, told PC World. “So we asked some makers in Taiwan to do the work, and then we import the discs back to Japan. The Taiwanese company was able to obtain a pressing machine from Sony and will start mass production in August.”
