Introducing BitBurners’ MediaBase
You may have noticed that BitBurners’ news have been slow for this week. The reason for this is that we have been working hard on the Alpha 2 version of our new MediaBase, the DVD recordable media quality database. Bugs have been fixed, features improved and new media added to the database. The MediaBase serves two purposes: it is the online storage for your DVD media quality scans and it provides interesting quality statistics about the recordable media on the market. Never buy a bad disc again!
The idea of the MediaBase is that everyone can submit their Nero CD-DVD Speed scans to the database. This way they are conveniently stored online, and can easily be linked from forum discussions on any website, emails and so on. The MediaBase has a search engine integrated, so you can easily seek information about DVD media before purchasing.
But as more data is collected, some interesting thing start to happen. In the future the MediaBase will be able to generate interesting statistics about the quality differences of DVD recordable media. What DVD media brands have changed their manufacturer, what media is good for your drive, what media brand delivers the best/worst quality and so on. The developer of Nero CD-DVD Speed, Erik Deppe, has promised to support the MediaBase and and DVD recorder information to the CD-DVD Speed quality scan report. Once that feature is implemented (next version?) and more data is collected, the MediaBase will show you statistics how do DVD recorders work and compare with various media!
But all this is only possible by collecting a large amount of data. We can only add the discs that we have received manufacturer samples of, so we need the support of the community - and you. So do a good deed and burn & scan and upload some test results to the MediaBase.
