Goodbye DVD Decrypter!

The website Afterdawn.com has been contacted by Macrovision, who have acquired and are the owner of the DVD Decrypter, that they are no longer allowing the software to be distributed or licensed for the end users.

As the current owner of the intellectual property rights in DVD Decrypter Macrovision has contacted us to inform that “any license granted by Lightning UK! to AfterDawn for the distribution of any version of the Software [DVD Decrypter] is hereby terminated with immediate effect.”

Even though Macrovision acquired the IPRs to DVD Decrypter by using legal threats, it does not change the fact that they are the owner of the software. The developer of DVD Decrypter (Lightning UK!) wasn’t far sighted enough to release the software as open-source, before it was too late to do that, so Macrovision was able to finish it for good. Obviously Afterdawn will respect the request of Macrovision, and I have no doubt that Macrovision will be contacting other distributors as well.

Therefore effective now, the BitBurners.com is no longer hosting DVD Decrypter v3.5.4.0 or any other version. The software description page now contains information about the fine alternatives to DVD Decrypter, and DVDFab Decrypter is being offered as the primary replacement.

Alternatives to DVD Decrypter:

  • AnyDVD is a commerical driver based solution to bypass DVD copy protections.
  • DVDFab is a commercial software to rip, copy, transcode, and record DVD video content.
  • DVDFab Decrypter is a free DVD ripper, similar to DVD Decrypter.
  • ImgBurn is a free software containing the recording features of DVD Decrypter.

If you still wish to obtain the DVD Decrypter I suggest to have a look with Google.
