DVD/CD-R disc quotes to rise in 3Q

Quotes for DVD+R/-R and CD-R discs will increase slightly in the third quarter, according to CMC Magnetics. However, CMC declined to estimate how much prices will rise, as the outcome of an anti-dumping investigation currently being conducted by the European Union (EU) will affect price changes as well.

The investigation should be concluded by the end of April to early May.

Tight supply of CD-R discs has extended to the DVD+R/-R segment, said Wong, adding that only prices for CD-R discs increased in the second quarter of this year. However, increased demand for DVD+R/-R discs will push up quotes for the third quarter, Wong noted.

In the fourth quarter, quotes for DVD+R/-R and CD-R discs will increase more significantly, due to a seasonal peak in demand, Wong claimed.

CMC also stated that construction at its new plant in Thailand is almost completed. Volume shipments from the Thailand plant are expected to commence in July 2006, Wong indicated.
