DVD Decrypter being replaced AnyDVD and DVDFab
While DVD Decrypter remains as the most preferred DVD ripper applications, it seems obvious that people are starting to look for other alternatives, as the development of DVDD has ceased quite some time ago. Driver based AnyDVD seems to be the most attractive alternative.
Nearly 1800 people responded to this survey, which we kept online for quite some time. While the DVD Decrypter still gets about 48% of the votes, the gap to the challengers is narrowing.
AnyDVD has gained a lot of recognition for being able to beat even the newest DVD protection schemes, such as Macrovision RipGuard and Sony ARccOS. SlySoft has been rolling updates very frequently, and the driver based invisible operation of the software makes very easy to use ever for novices.
Soon after the DVD Decrypter was busted by Macrovision, Fengtao Software released a freeware version of their DVDFab Decrypter. It is very simple to use, is able to bypass new proctetion types and is the closest replacement to DVD Decrypter. The DVD Region+CSS Free is Fengtao’s driver based solution - very similar to AnyDVD, but seems to be less popular on the market
SmartRipper and vStrip are more or less legacy software, even they will work on most discs with only the regular DeCSS protection. DVD43 is a driver based solution, which has failed to impress
The bottom line is that, while DVD Decrypter still is the most preferred choice, the trend is clear - it is about to be replaced with the software that are up-to-date with the modern copy protections. As soon as more RipGuard proctected discs are being delivered to the market, we will see the market share of DVD Decrypter falling.
