A LAME v3.97b update
Nothing about LAME is actually lame. The open source LAME MP3 is the best MP3 encoder with excellent audio quality. Actually the quality of LAME encoded MP3 files is so good, that it is more than able to challenge newer formats like the MPEG-4 AAC (*.aac or *.mp4).
Earlier this month it was agreed that the new version 3.97 had reached the maturity, and it is now the recommended version to use. The new version brings some changes, as the well known quality presets: “standard”, “extreme”, etc. have been dumped and replaced with a -V 0…9 quality setting.
Also, the visual appeal of LAME has received a facelift as a new logo was designed. The new blue/green logo looks very stylish and has a professional appeal.
The BitBurners always hosts the latest recommended version of LAME MP3 Encoder. As LAME is a command line application, is not everyone’s piece of cake. A very good CD ripper with LAME support (and just about every other format) is Exact Audio Copy. Also, for a easier solution Poikosoft’s Easy CD-DA Extractor is a very good audio CD ripper, which can bypass audio CD copy protections with ease, and has the LAME v3.97 built in.
