20x DVD burners may become mainstream in 4Q 2007

According to DigiTimes, 20x burners stands a good chance to become the mainstream writing speed of DVD burners in the fourth quarter of 2007. Thanks to HP and Dell which are adopting half-height 20x DVD burners to desktop PCs. Lite-On IT started volume production of 20x DVD burners in late 2006. Hitachi-LG Data Storage (HLDS), Toshiba-Samsung Storage Technology (TSST) and Pioneer are preparing to start volume production of 20x DVD burners in the second quarter.



In view of emerging OEM and ODM orders for 20x DVD burners and the likelihood of increasing volumes, HLDS, TSST and Pioneer are preparing to start volume production of 20x DVD burners in the second quarter, the sources pointed out.

Lite-On IT and BenQ have launched 20x DVD burners under their own brands Liteon and BenQ, respectively, for retail sale in the global market, the sources said. The demand for 20x DVD burners is expected to extend from retail markets to OEM/ODM clients, the sources noted.
