Blu-ray, HD-DVD or both?

Our recent poll shows how unclear the future of optical recording is for the consumers. While it seems that Blu-ray is few steps ahead of HD-DVD, the future is everything but certain and perhaps Asian formats may have an impact as well.

The majority of over 300 voters thought that Blu-ray will be dominant. Indeed, it currently seems that the Blu-ray camp does have an edge over HD-DVD, and their marketing machine is doing a better job. However, over 25% of the voters thought that Blu-ray and HD-DVD co-exist like DVD-R and +R. Might be possible, but these two technologies do have some differeces which may make this more difficult to achieve than with DVD formats

Less than 19% have faith in HD-DVD and think that HD-DVD will be dominant. Still some 11% of people believe that a unified format will emerge, while it doesn’t seem likely at the moment. Less than 9% presume that market is fragmented into smaller segments so that FVD and EVD would have an impact as well. Only a bit more then 6% belveive that in the future there is a duobolic market divided in between Blu-ray and HD-DVD.
